Locking and Unlocking Messages in Your Inbox

Locking a Message

allows you to lock any non-encrypted message in Outlook with the same high security as the encrypted messages.

To lock an email message:

1 From Outlook, select a message.
2 Right-click the message and select Encrypt Item(s). The password prompt appears.
3 Enter your Secure ID password. The lock icon appears on the message to indicate that it is locked. Once the message is locked, only you will be able to open it.

Note: A locked message is digitally signed with your Secure ID, not that of the message sender.

Unlocking a Message

To unlock an encrypted message permanently:

1 From Outlook, select an encrypted message.
2 Right-click the message and select Decrypt Item(s) Permanently. The password prompt appears.
3 Enter your Secure ID password.
4 Click OK. The message is permanently unlocked.

Note: Any digital signature will be permanently removed when you unlock a message. This will prevent you from verifying the message's and sender's integrity in the future.
